Petach Tikvah is a ministry that works from a farm situated about 300 meters distance from the Memorial Center of the former camp. Westerbork in Holland, a transit camp for Jews in WWII
Petach Tikvah is a Hebrew phrase and means “Door of Hope”. Between 1942 and 1944, thousands of Jewish people walked past this farm on their way to camp Westerbork. A decision had been made, namely, to rid the Netherlands of its Jewish population. They were to be exterminated.
A railway line ran behind the farm buildings. 107.000 Dutch Jews were transported like cattle and deported to the death camps. Literally a “gateway to death” as only 5000 of them survived this hell of destruction
